The best things in life are free but you can give them to the birds and bees I want money (29/05)

While driving home from a nice fat cat dinner last night I saw something that got me to thinking. You see on the way to my house I always pass under a bridge where some homeless people live. There they were, as per normal tucked up for the night, next to their trolleys. What was different this time was that they had
two South African flags proudly flying from their trolleys. For me that was a bit of a reality check…

In the past few weeks I have some many of these flags but generally on BMW’s, Mercs and Hummers. For many of us getting into the swing of things for the world cup, is more of an image thing - Something you do to look good. Getting into the swing of things is normally something we do at a café, restaurant or bar once we have had a few drinks…

I am not sure whether I could get into the swing of things tucked up in some old rags; lying under a bridge on a bitterly cold evening. What struck me last night was just how different people are, what makes us happy and what gives us real joy and pride. Many of us are conditioned to believe that we need lots of material things to be happy. We need everything to be just right, we need all the right settings and the trappings before we can be really happy.

When you are surrounded by TV’s, music systems, computers and lots of media it is very difficult to tune into “you” Your focus tend to be on “them” There is no more time for you.. The lyrics from an old song by a band called the “flying lizards” goes “the best things in life are free but you can give them to the birds and bees I want money” The lyrics from another old song go “it’s a sad sad world…”

Enough of that its rugby time – relax – or better not don’t relax - have a party and enjoy yourself…
