The Selling Game - Sophia Blouberg (03/06)
This Sunday I went to a restaurant on the beachfront in Big Bay, Blouberg for a meal. This is one of my favorites, a place I normally come because of the good
value for money breakfasts.
0610a-4As per usual we waited almost 20 min for coffee and then another 40 min for lunch. The manager came over – probably because he saw me glaring at him – and took the time to explain to me that they were busy and that it is absolutely normal to wait 40 min for your food.
I was going to suggest that he take his hands out of his pockets and maybe helps the waiter!! I don’t know; this might make a difference!! – but instead I opted to keep quiet. The manager was kind enough to explain the design of the kitchen and explain in detail why there was a delay. Well as fascinating as this is; I have heard the reason why the food takes so long to prepare; many many times over the last few months and0610a-3 I am really not interested.
What would interest me more – and should interest him too - is the following. Find a way to cut down on your preparation time! Yes it is possible, their is no grill and most of the food they prepare is fried. And if I am wrong then consider something else. You are in the selling game not the food business!!! If you agree; then while I am waiting for my food; make my stay pleasant (and make some money in the process)
Yes it doesn’t take 20min to get me an espresso from the bar – and yes when I am finished; why not come back to my table and sell me something else to drink… Why Not??? The drinks bill is more than the food bill in mane cases so why not focus on feeding me something liquid while I wait – and maybe keep me happy or make me even happier..
You are in the selling game… focus on keeping me happy and I promise I will wait 40min or even longer…
